Meet the nation's Princess: Beaming Kate and William present their baby girl to the world

THE Duchess of Cambridge appeared at the steps of the hospital holding her beautiful new-born daughter - just hours after the royal birth.
Proud father Prince William joined Kate at the entrance of the Lindo Wing just after 6pm. The delighted parents waved to well-wishers who had spent hours camped outside and smiled for photographers. They returned inside but reappeared minutes later with their daughter in a car seat. William carried her to his Range Rover and placed her in the back seat. The happy couple made no comment before driving away. The family headed to Kensington Palace so the royal baby could spend her first night at home. It was less than 10 hours after the birth but Kate, wearing a yellow top, white skirt and high-heeled shoes, looked happy and healthy.
The family appeared at around 6.15pm today

William brought the baby out of the hospital in a car seat before placing her in the back seat Hours earlier the royal hairdresser was reported to have entered the building leading to rumours mother and daughter would be returning home before nightfall. William, Kate and their daughter left the hospital just two hours after Prince George arrived to meet his new sister. The little prince waved to the crowds as he arrived at his mother's bedside in the arms of his beaming dad to meet his new sister for the first time. The adorable prince, wearing a blue jumper like his dad, looked to be in his element as he waved to the crowd from William's arms on the steps of the hospital as the jubilant crowd outside cheered him on.

He was later taken home for bed and dinner, a spokesman confirmed. The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a little girl weighing 8lbs 3oz at 8.34am. William earlier revealed he was "very happy" as he made a quick dash to the royal residence to pick up his son. Crowds of well-wishers whooped and cheered as the elated prince left St Mary's Hospital in Paddington less than seven hours after Kate gave birth to their baby daughter. Two uniformed police officers stood attentively outside the Lindo Wing as William waved to the crowd which has gathered in jubilation outside the hospital. The Prince's exit was slightly delayed, thought be due to the fact that he stopped briefly on his way out to chat to members of the medical team who helped out with the birth of his daughter to thank them for their efforts. Asked how the day had gone, the Prince grinned and replied "very well".
